Sponsoring Spanaway Improvement

The Celebrate! Spanaway annual community fair has proven to help build a sense of community and improve the social, cultural, economic and aesthetic quality of life for its residents

  • Neighborhood cleanup before the fair has become an annual project for our historic area's residents.
  • Local entrepreneurs have found they draw customers all year round from exposure at the fair.
  • Local restaurants enjoy increased sales fair weekend from out-of-area vendors and visitors.
  • Fair visitors have told us the fair helped them make new friends and rekindle old acquaintances
  • Rebuilding a small-town know-your-neighbors ambiance through the fair has dramatically cut crime in the area.
  • The fair's ethnic foods and entertainment broaden cultural awareness and acceptance.
  • Fair visitors enjoy music and entertainment they otherwise may not have access to.
  • Non-profit service agencies use the fair as outreach to our citizens in need.
  • The fair provides free wholesome family entertainment in an easily accessible venue for Spanaway's low-income and physicaly challenged population.

Data from the 2000 U.S. Census illustrates why we seek sponsors so the street fair can be free to all.

  • Twenty percent (20%) of Spanaway's non-institutionalized population has some form of disability, three percent (3%) higher than Pierce County overall and four percent (4%) higher than Washington State overall.

  • Spanaway has 2 percent (2%) more families with annual income under $25,000 than do Pierce County overall and Washington State.

  • Despite a lower average income for Spanaway families:
  • Over sixty percent (61.4%) of Spanaway households have all adults residing in the home in the workforce (compared to 43% in Pierce County and 37.8% in the state)
  • So a disproportionate share of the working poor reside in Spanaway.

  • Thirty percent (30%) of Spanaway households include children under age eighteen, compared to 27 percent in Pierce County overall and 25.7 percent in Washington State.

  • The number of Spanaway families on public assistance is higher than the County and State overall.

  • This means that Spanaway has a disproportionate number of children living in poverty or near poverty.

  • Lower adult education among Spanaway residents likely contributes to higher poverty rates despite working adults in the home: 51.6 percent (51.6%) with high school or less (compared to 43.0% in Pierce County and 37.8% in Washington state)

Please join our team of sponsors and/or volunteers who are making Spanaway a great place to live for all of its citizens. Discounts, donation of goods or services, and posting fair flyers or signs at your place of business are as welcome as program funding.
